I’ll be listing the books I read as I read them with a short description of the book, as well as a link to the book on Amazon. longer review posts will be on the main blog.

1.Good Omens By: Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Cult Classic about the end of the world. Funny with a very satisfying ending. (Finished reading: January 6th)

2.Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. First book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Vampire mystery/romance. (Finished reading: January 9th)

3. The Dead Girls’ Dance by: Rachel Caine. Second book in the YA Morganville Vampire series. Continues following Claire Danvers in a mafia like vampire town where people who leave town don’t remember the vampires and those who stay align themselves with one for protection. (Finished reading: January 13th)

4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by: J. K. Rowling. Sixth book in the Harry Potter series. Harry is a lot more grown up this book. Lots of interesting developments. Everyone knows what Harry Potter is about so any details besides “it’s good” would probably count as spoilers. (Finished reading January 19th)

5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by: J. K. Rowling. The final book in the Harry Potter series. One of the best things I’ve read in a long time. One of the most satisfying endings, definitely worth the wait. (Finished reading January 27th)

6. Undead and Uneasy by: MaryJanice Davidson. The most recent book in the Betsy the Vampire queen series. Fun and entertaining as always, though Sinclair isn’t as big of a feature in this book and he’s my favorite. But it was a good plot. (Finished reading January 28th)

7. Living Dead in Dallas by: Charlaine Harris. The second book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. This series is kickass. (Finished reading January 31st)

8. Club Dead by: Charlaine Harris. The third book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. OMG I LOVE this series. And I LOVE Eric. *drool.* (Finished reading February 4th)

9. Lip Service by: MJ Rose. This book was phenomenal. LOVED it. Story of a phone sex operator, but it’s much deeper than it sounds by that description. (Finished reading February 5th)

10. The Reincarnationist by: MJ Rose. A man has an accident that causes him to have vivid flashbacks of a life he lived 1600 years in the past. Suspense. (Finished reading February 9th)

11. Dead to the World by: Charlaine Harris. The 4th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Still surprising, fresh, original and unbelievably fantastic. Can you tell I’m a total Sookie fangirl? (Finished reading February 12th)

12. Dead as a Doornail by: Charlaine Harris. The 5th installment in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Still a great series, but riddled with typos and too much competition for Eric…who of course is the vamp she’s meant to be with, according to me. (Finished reading February 15th)

13. Definitely Dead by: Charlaine Harris. The 6th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. (Finished reading February 26th)

14. All Together Dead by: Charlaine Harris. The 7th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Book 8 comes out this May. (Finished reading March 3rd)

15. Mafia Chic by: Erica Orloff. Kickass chick lit type book about a mafia princess and an FBI agent. (Finished reading March 7th)

16. Micah by: Laurell K. Hamilton. Book 13 in the anita blake series. The last book I started in this series was either book 9 or 10. So I’m a little bit out of order. Guess it doesn’t matter what order I read them in now. (Finished reading March 16th)

17. Tanner’s Scheme by: Lora Leigh. Racy were book with a genetic twist. (Finished reading March 20th)

18. Two for the Dough by: Janet Evanovich. Book 2 in the Stephanie Plum series. Mystery. Hilarious. (Finished reading March 29th)

19. Private Lessons by: Julie Elizabeth Leto. A stripper loses her memory in the home of a rich man. Mayhem ensues. (Finished reading March 31st)

20. Dead and Loving it by: MaryJanice Davidson. This is a book of stories/novellas about various vampire and werewolf pairings. Really cute, and very sexy. Deals with some minor characters we see in other books and novellas. This is definitely one I want to buy for my home library. (Finished reading April 1st)

21. A Countess Below Stairs by: Eva Ibbotson. A retelling of Anastasia. Really fantastic. Very beautifully written. I definitely want this one for my bookshelf. (Finished reading April 6th)

22. Getting Rid of Bradley by: Jennifer Crusie. Cute book about a “bad boy” cop who moves in with a woman to protect her from her crazy recently ex husband. (Finished reading April 9th)

23. One for the Money by: Janet Evanovich. The first book of the Stephanie Plum series. (Finished reading April 13th)

24. Three to get Deadly by: Janet Evanovich. The third book in the Stephanie Plum series. (Finished reading April 20th)

25. Four to Score by: Janet Evanovich. The fourth book in the Stephanie Plum series. (Finished reading April 23rd)

26. Hello Gorgeous by: MaryJanice Davidson. The first book in the Gorgeous series about cybernetically enhanced humans. Think vampires without blood, with nanobytes. Not my favorite MJD book. (Finished reading April 24th)

27. A Bite to Remember by: Lynsay Sands. The fifth book in the Argeneau vampire series. Vampires with nanobytes. (Finished reading May 14th)

28. Manhunting by: Jennifer Crusie. Light romantic comedy. Kate goes on vacation searching for a man to marry. But accidents keep happening to all the men who fit her plan. (Finished reading May 19th)

29. A Hunger Like No Other by: Kresley Cole. One of my absolute FAVORITE paranormal romances. I’ve read it 3 or 4 times. (Finished reading June 11th)

30. Twilight by: Stephenie Meyer. One of my favorite paranormal romances. (Finished reading June 15th)

31. Mary Reilly by: Valerie Martin. Bestselling novel that led to the movie of the same name starring Julia Roberts and John Malcovich. Very well written. I wish I’d read the book first though. (Finished reading July 12th)

32. Bloodsucking Fiends by: Christopher Moore. The writing is fabulous, the prose sings. It’s got sort of a Douglas Adams meets Neil Gaimon feel to it. Very smart, very sharp. But in the end, there is no emotional honesty and no real payoff. (Finished reading July 13th)

33. Hotter After Midnight by: Cynthia Eden. Very engaging paranormal romance about a monster doctor and the badboy wolf shifter that steals her heart. (Finished reading July 16th)

  1. Liz Kreger Says:

This is a cool idea, Zoe. Sort of a short review of books as you go. I’ll have to check this out regularly.

  2. zoewinters Says:

Thanks. The 50 book challenge concept doesn’t originate with me though. I learned about it through an LJ comm called 50bookchallenge last year, and if you google “50 book challenge” it has quite a history.

  3. Mardel Says:

Hey, saw your post on Bam’s site. checked out your book list (50 book challenge) You have listed quite a few books that I’ve read. Just in case you don’t know yet - you probably already do - Christopher Moore has a sequel to Blood Sucking Fiends titled You Suck. His characters aren’t people you would want as your friends. I think that’s kind of what I like about his books. His characters have flaws and don’t necessarily try to grow. I’m interested to see what else you’ll be reading. Is this 50 book challenge something that you decided to do on your own, or were you challenged?

  4. Mardel Says:

hah, i should actually read the comments sections before I ask questions. Just noticed your reply about the book challenge.
By the way I did read that you have been writing. Do you have any excerpts up? I have looked on this site, but I’m not a very computer friendly person. My favorite genre is paranormal (urban fantasy the favorite of the favorites.)

Have you tried Ilona Andrews (Magic Bites, Magic Burns)

or Patricia Briggs (Moon Called, Blood Bound and Iron Kissed)

    Both of them great writers.

Any way good luck on getting published, hope it happens soon for you.

  5. zoewinters Says:

Hey Mardel, thanks for stopping by! Bloodsucking Fiends bugged the crap out of me. I LOVED it until literally the last page when I realized really and truly he was going to let these two jerks be together. I wanted her to be with the vampire that turned her. Moore spent a lot of time making Tommy unlikeable and just plain sociopathic and Elijah likeable, then there was no payoff for that. Maybe that’s just his style and the “point” of what he’s writing. I found it disappointing.

There was an LJ community called 50bookchallenge (may still exist) and I thought it was a neat idea. And I gotta have a “goal” to be consistent with reading.

Hey Mardel, no prob. I do that a lot too lol about not reading comments first. I write paranormal romance but I don’t yet have an excerpt of anything up. Maybe I should consider an excerpt. I do intend to start offering some things free in ebook form probably starting in september and I’m also planning to podcast my novel, SAVE MY SOUL so that will be free in the audio format too. There is a yahoo subscribe button on the main page for my newsletter where I inform people of pertinent stuff when it comes up.

I haven’t read either of the two authors you suggested, but I’ll add them to the massive TBR pile, I’m always looking for good stuff to read.

Thanks for the well wishes! I know it will happen, it might just take a long freaking time. :P

  7. Lindsay Says:

Oooh, i have some books i keep forgetting to recommend to you, so here goes. If you have not yet read the Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko? You need to. Is way nifty. There are three books out now, the fourth is coming out at some point in the whenever (date varies depending who you ask).

In order, the ones already out are:
    - Night Watch
    - Day Watch
    - Twilight Watch

If you’ve seen the movies, still read the books. The first movie pulls from the first story in the first book (each book has three stories that are all tied in together) and the second movie is partly the second story of the first book, with bits from all over the place in the other books added, and some random shit from outta nowhere for good measure. The books are better, but the movies ain’t half bad.

So yes. Read ‘em. SUCH good times.

  8. zoewinters Says:

Hey Lindsay, you once recommended the Night Watch series but it slipped my mind, thanks for reminding me!

    hehehe. Awesome.
