I’m still hurting, but I’m experiencing a pain lull and finished reading the next Sookie Stackhouse book, “Dead as a Doornail”
and wanted to get on and review it. It’s a mixed review, and no, it’s not because I’m pissy about the pain.
First of all I LOVE this series. I have very few complaints. I still want Eric and Sookie “2gether 4evar” I have just 2 issues.
Issue number one: Typos. This book has suffered more typos than any of the previous ones. I don’t know who dropped the ball on this but it pisses me off. While I’m getting my books from the library, book sales show not everybody is, and people shell out about $20 a pop for a few hours of reading enjoyment. The amount of entertainment, this is comparable to a movie ticket price.
No one releases a movie with massive continuity errors to the public. And yet more and more major publishing houses are releasing books riddled with typos.
Maybe it’s not the publisher’s fault. Maybe the author got galleys and didn’t read them and alert them to the typos or was so stressed and harried she didn’t catch them, but someone is dropping the ball and I sincerely hope the problem has been corrected in future books.
There were about 15 typos, many of which I can recall just off the top of my head:
*A character named ‘Catfish Hennessey’ is changed to “Catfish Hunter”
* A character named Claudine suddenly becomes Claudia.
* Said instead of sat.
* Feat where it should be feet.
My other issue is a story specific issue. Sookie now has no less than 6 supernatural creatures, who want to sleep with her. 5 of them are gorgeous, one of them at least not grotesque who she felt an unexpected spark for when he kissed her. This long list of suiters who are passionately chasing her around is starting to strain credulity. Though I can admit what irritates me the most about Sookie as a character right now, is that she isn’t taking more of them up on their offers.
I further admit that the more other “hot supernatural creatures” who want to boink her, the less chance it’s going to end up being her and Eric in the end. And no matter how sexy or what great qualities they have, I don’t want loyalties to be divided, I want her with Eric. So that’s a personal prejudice, a personal issue and no reflection on the author. It’s that I don’t like Eric having this much competition. I don’t mind if she sleeps with them, I just don’t want her getting all committed to them like she did with Bill.
Bill irritated me beyond irritating me. He’s like the equivalent of Angel from Buffy. He had the means to help her out when she’s financially strapped and he’s just completely thoughtless. Meanwhile Eric is having her driveway regraveled. Is that a word? Who knows? At any rate, he may be slightly on the evil inhuman side, but the man is ultimately considerate and paying attention to Sookie’s needs.
Finally there is a Fairy named Claude, who is also gay. (Fairy is used in the supernatural sense, not the euphemistic sense.) If Claude, who is also quite gorgeous, turns slightly bisexual, I’m calling foul. I hope Eric eats these other men, though not in the sexual sense, though then again, they are all pretty so either way is fine with me.
I have a single-minded pairing obsession going on here. I hope you all don’t think I’m completely insane now that you’ve read this review. If you do, I’m blaming the pain killers.
This book did end GREAT though, despite typos and competition for Eric. I freaking loved the last line.
Now I have to go, cause I hurt. I’ll respond to replies to other posts when I can stand to sit up like this for longer periods of time.

Hehe Edie, I am, I am. But it’s hard not being on the internet. And I’m not overdoing it.
