Whenever I work on a particular project (assuming it’s not a short story or essay), I put up the wallpaper that goes with it. With an LCD screen I don’t really need a screen saver anymore, so I just use a wallpaper on my desktop. Every time I start a new rough draft I make a new wallpaper to go with it. Something that thematically represents the work, with the title and my name on it.
So I’ve kept forgetting to get one done for CLAIMED and now I get to. The making of the wallpaper is one of my favorite parts. I get to play with GIMP which for those who don’t know is the Linux version of Photoshop. I could go on forever about how much I hate Windows.
My husband is a Linux geek and he set me up with my own computer when we set up our office. And he put Linux on it. I kicked and screamed cause I didn’t know how to use Linux and it wasn’t what was familiar and he was like “trust me, you’ll like this.” And OMG did I like it. There were no pop-ups online like with Windows. Nothing slowed to a crawl. Everything just did what it was supposed to. It was like magic. So when I got to photo-editing I learned on the GIMP which is a free program similar to Photoshop but not exactly.
Now my husband is on Windows Vista primarily. Not because he likes it or wants to be but because there is more Windows related tech support work (and yeah, there would be because like I said, Winbloze sucks). I have steadfastly refused to be moved. It’s Linux for me from now on. Or I’ll use a Mac, which runs similar software.
I broke up with Windows a long time ago. irreconcilable differences. I needed to be free to see other operating systems.

I’ve always wanted to try Linux. Do you have to uninstall Windows to try it?

Hey Spy, no you don’t. You can have a dual boot installed, so you can reboot and pic your OS. But I loathe windows so much I’m willing to figure out how to do things in Linux instead. Windows Vista especially sucks. I don’t understand how something this crappy even gets on the market or why people willingly subject themselves to it.
As to how to install linux I couldn’t tell you. Tom installed mine and quite honestly I don’t want to learn how to do most of the more technical Linux stuff. It makes my brain hurt. I know it’s unempowered to go: “waaaa I’m a girl that’s too technical for me.” But there it is. I’m one of THOSE kinds of girls. If it’s too technical I can’t deal with it.
