So today I went to the mailbox and what was there? My self addressed stamped postcard (try saying that five times fast) for KEPT. Which means they’ve already at least opened the manuscript. It’s only been a week since the mail man picked it up. That’s fast. I’m used to things sitting in a stack for a few weeks at least before anyone even opens anything.
On top of that, I gave a link to my blog in my cover letter, which theoretically means someone could hop over here, see that I would sleep with Hannibal Lector and go: “No. Does not want. Epic Fail.” hehehe
Anyway, what irritates me is, the post office claims I owe them 58 cents for too low postage. The only thing this could possibly apply to (as far as I know) is the KEPT manuscript. I weighed it on the official post office machine, and used the little machine to print my postage. So if the post office doesn’t have their machine properly calibrated, I don’t see how that’s my problem.
What bothers me about the scenario isn’t the 58 cents. It’s the fact that the postage is probably not enough on the SASE either, and I hate the idea of a publisher sending me something back and owing for the postage. It’s not fair to them and it makes me look unprofessional and I’m really not sure how to rectify the situation without looking like a bigger boob.

Zoe, talk to your post office. Something is wrong there.
I’m sending good wishes to you on KEPT.

Yeah, I emailed them. I’m updating in my blog where THAT went.
