I finally got around to watching episode 10 of True Blood. It was … intense. Is putting it mildly. Could Eric BE any yummier?

I’m thinking no.

And holy crap, Bill is annoying. He’s just so “good” and “blah blah blah.” They are playing Bill up as too nice on the show, and it’s annoying me. In the books Bill was fairly cold, IMO.

I like how dark this is playing out. Some people have said that the show is darker than the books. I think the show is a little bit different from the books, but I think the books are pretty dark. You just don’t notice it cause A. they’re books, and it’s easier to disconnect from a lot of violent/sexual subtext in the vampire scenario.

Even if you know intellectually what’s happening, it’s so much different when you see it visually.

And B. since the books are told in first person, and Sookie has a very quirky and engaging voice, you don’t really think about how dark some of it is, because it’s coming through the filter of her voice.

But before they ever made the show, when I was reading the book before the latest one, I was thinking “This would be cool on film, but how the hell would they film it? They’d have to cut a lot out for TV.”

HBO is one of the few stations that could have done this show. Though it’s not a perfect show. Some things about it annoy me. Some of the accents are over the top and inconsistent. None of these people sound like they’re from Louisiana. Some of the subplots are a little WTF, but Eric makes up for it. What little screen time he gets.

Have I mentioned how yummy Eric is?

What I love is all the interactivity that HBO has created for this show. They’ve had the Wiki set up, and they have all these supplemental youtube videos from a site called: Bloodcopy.com (like hardcopy but for the vampire world of True Blood)

And they also have a website for the fellowship of the sun, which is a group against vampires in the books and show: http://www.fellowshipofthesun.org

It’s very cool.
